On the basis of the demand from Fatak Bazar Market Association, Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli sends a proposal to the Government of Assam for further four-day lockdown (from 10th August to 13th August) in the district.
Cachar already witnessed an intolerable price hike for essential commodities since the beginning of the pandemic. During the last lockdown phases, the price of the commodities almost reached double. The citizens usually try to stock essential commodities whenever they hear about lockdown. Some also borrow money to stock essentials during lockdowns. Though many suffered due to lockdown, the fear of lockdown makes the grocery store owners richer. Probably for this, the market association demands such.
Keerthi Jalli, the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar submitting her concern on further lockdown for four days, wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary, of Assam Government on 7th July. In the letter, she has proposed for lockdown again in the district.
The letter said, a meeting was called on 7th August by Silchar MP and MLA, Katigorah MLA, Borkhola MLA, representative and Superintendent of Cachar police. All the members attended the meeting choose to stand for the vested interests cherished by the merchants of Fatak Bazar.
They suggested that Saturday and Sunday dated 8th & 9th, August be permitted for citizens to stock their homes & lockdown be announced from 10th to 13th August (4 days) with relief on 14th and 15th August and to continue.
