27-year-old rape convict who is also a COVID victim escaped from the isolation ward of Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar, Assam on Wednesday morning. The escapist has been identified as Sukto Murmu alias Sukla.

He escaped from the hospital at around 7 am to 8 am on Wednesday breaking the window of the hospital corridor. He is from Santipara under Dhaligaon police station in Chirang district. Senior police officials visited the hospital and took stock of the situation.

The rape accused and COVID19 positive patient was brought to the isolation ward of the Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital on July 24 where he was undergoing treatment.

Sukto Murmu was lodged at Kokrajhar district jail in connection with a rape case (No.112/20) registered at Dhaligaon PS under section 376D of the IPC on May 15, 2020.
