Communal clash breaks out at Malugram of Silchar on Sunday night. Police lathi charged and fired rubber bullets to control the situation.
Clash between two groups even during the Covid pandemic and night curfew has created tense among the people of Silchar. Everything was normal as there was weekend lockdown and night curfew. Suddenly the group clash spread across the Malugram area. There have been reports of vandalism in several shops and several injured in the the incident.
Malugram police reached the spot to control the situation but Police personnel were also injured in the incident. CPFR lathi charged and fired rubber bullets to control the situation.
The locals said, the incident started on Saturday afternoon and reached its peak on Sunday night. The posting for the proposed Ram Mandir and the sale of meat on the day of Eid are said to be the beginning of the incident.
Meanwhile, the DIG Dilip Kumar Dey said, “It’s not a communal clash rather it’s an out burst of personal clash. Situation is under control, curfew has already been enforced from 7pm to 7am and it will be extended at Malugram area if needed.”
The DIG urges people and even the politician not pass any communal statement. He further stated that the police will take any decision to make the peace intact.
