An FIR was filed against Sonia Gandhi in Karnataka on May 21, over some tweets made from the INC official Twitter handle. The BJP led Karnataka government alleges the controversial tweet as spreading rumors and misleading the public with regard to the PM-CARES fund. The opposition on the other hand identified the allegation as worthless and demands the withdrawal of the FIR on MAY 22.
Advocate K V Praveen filed the complaint against Sonia Gandhi. The FIR has been lodged at Sagar Town Police Station in Shivamogga on Thursday. According to the complainant, the Congress, in a series of tweets made from the handle @INCIndia on May 11 after 6 pm, which are baseless and false allegations against Prime Minister and the Government of India. According to the officer-in-charge of Sagar Town police, Sonia Gandhi has been identified as the handler of the @INCIndia Twitter account and an FIR has been registered after a preliminary inquiry. The FIR has been filed under sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505(1)(b) (intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public).
Hours after the FIR was filed against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Karnataka Congress dubbed the complaint as mischievous. Now the INC party also demanded the BJP led state government to withdraw the same. The Congress party alleged that the complaint had a political motive to cause unrest in the country.
According to the congress party leaders, the tweets were intended to force the Prime Minister to use the PM CARES fund for the welfare of the people. But this was misinterpreted by the state BJP party and Praveen Kumar filed the complaint against Sonia Gandhi. Accordingly the complaint is absolutely based on false information and without examining its truthfulness. The Karnataka congress party demands an immediate cancellation of the FIR against party president Sonia Gandhi. Not only that, President of Karnataka INC also urged Karnataka CM Yediyurappa to register an FIR against the police officer who registered the complaint and suspend him from his duties.
