The Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed three bills to allow autonomy and separate entities for Moran, Matak, Koch-Rajbongshi and Kamatapur communities in the state which was initiated and tabled on March 24.

MLA Mamun Imdadul Haque Chowdhury from AIUDF argues that people may interpret it falsely that the Assam government is dividing the state in the name of regions.

However, the opposition and one of the members of BJP objected to the nomenclature of the third one and requested the government to change it to the Koch-Rajbongshi Autonomous Council Bill, 2020.

MLA Mamun Imdadul Haque Chowdhury from AIUDF said that Kamatapur is a geographical area, which stretches up to Cooch Behar. So there is no need for the separate entity for this. He also said that people may interpret it falsely that the Assam government is dividing the state in the name of regions.
