Overloaded truck with 793 cartons of unauthorised foreign liquors carrying beer & old monk seized in Jirighat, Assam-Manipur border.
COVID outbreak along with wiping employment results in a spike in smuggling cases all over the NE region. From drugs to liquor or from arms to animal, trafficking smuggling and racketeering reached high toll among the northeastern states of India as the scarcity of profession and placement is still a major issue in the region.
During the regular checking at Jirighat check gate in Cachar of Assam-Manipur border, Police seized truck bearing number AS 01 Q 6933 which coming from Guwahati and going towards Manipur and recovered huge quantity of unauthorised foreign liquors. Two-person apprehended in this connection.
As per Pronob Kumar Deka the in charge of Jirighat Police Station, they suspected a truck driver during their routine checking. As they tried to investigate the truck driver he showed false challan of saline bottles.
While they searched for more interestingly they found almost 800 cartons of foreign liquors carrying beer & old monk. The cartoons of foreign liquors were found kept concealed under the medicine cartoons in the truck.
The on-demand driver could not produce any documents in support of foreign liquors. He could only produce a medicine challan and a copy of E-WAY bill generated by Depak Jain for truck no-MN-01-8427.
